There are a multitude of challenges associated with being at the centre of a small team and Emily Kraakman thoroughly enjoys them all. Her role as a Para-Recruiter within the New Zealand office requires her to prioritise a stream of incoming demands and offer support to consultants as well as clients. Consistently gracious, Emily takes a quiet pride in her ability to ensure systems are running smoothly and that the individuals she deals with feel valued. Critical thinking is a strength and a clear sense of initiative lies behind her soft-spoken manner, which you may encounter as Emily is usually the first point of contact for Ochre Recruitment New Zealand.
A graduate of Canterbury University where she completed a BA in Anthropology and Sociology, Emily moved to Wellington from Christchurch in 2013. After a stint with the Accident Compensation Corporation she joined Ochre Recruitment team in August 2015. It certainly didn’t take her long to find her feet; Emily swiftly absorbed those aspects of medical recruitment pertinent to her role, such as immigration policy, overseas doctor qualifications and client liaison.
Before long she was noticing ways in which service delivery, communications, marketing and brand identity might be enriched for the New Zealand office and looked to make improvements where she could. Emily reviewed the impacts of existing marketing across various job boards and websites and successfully renegotiated print advertising contracts for her office. As well as working closely with Ochre’s marketing department she established positive relationships with Immigration New Zealand. As a result of that renewed connection, Ochre Recruitment can now be accessed via the Immigration NZ website under ‘information sources for foreign doctors’.
Not surprisingly, such a ‘go-getter’ attitude did not go unnoticed within the organisation and, in only her second year with Ochre Recruitment, Emily was awarded Employee of the Year, 2016. While delighted and honoured to receive this recognition she, however, has no intention of taking her eye off the ball. Much of the enjoyment she derives from her work comes from focused planning, solid logistics and ensuring attention is paid to detail. Clearly thriving within a small office environment Emily appreciates how this enables the acquirement of a broad range of medical recruitment skills and know-how.
As well as managing her day-to-day tasks, Emily is motivated by an overarching goal this year to proactively market the New Zealand office, particularly within the United Kingdom. She has recently embarked on extramural study towards a post-graduate diploma in marketing that will neatly support this. Studying for this qualification takes up quite a chunk of her spare time, while much of the remainder is spent planning her wedding scheduled to take place in a vineyard just outside Christchurch later in the year. The honeymoon will be deferred for a while so that Emily’s study can be completed and then the newlyweds plan to see the sights of Europe. And really, there is no doubt of this, because with Emily you have the strong sense that anything she sets her mind to will be accomplished.
